The tragedy of life American Billy Hayes formed the basis of the scenario of heavy drama, which received two Academy awards, six Golden globes and fifteen times paid for a modest two-million budget. For Director Alan Parker, this tape has largely set the direction of creativity: one by one, the screens came out strong picture "Mississippi burning", "bird", "Wall", "the Life of David Gale". Daring to take out of Turkey a couple of bags of hashish, the hero is caught at the Istanbul airport. After receiving a four-year term, Billy goes through many humiliations and abuse. The prisoner lives only one thought – a little more and this nightmare is over, he returns to the family and the bride. When the release will be slightly less than two months, the Supreme court in Ankara is reviewing the case and increases up to thirty years. Despair swept Hayes pushes him to thoughts of escape.
