Throughout the Midwestern United States, a series of bloody murders take place. The victims are young women in different states, and all the facts indicate that one man is behind all the episodes. A young but very active FBI agent, Clarice Starling, goes to the state prison for a consultation. She wants to understand the motives behind the murders by consulting with a maniac.
