The main character Jo Harding works as a meteorologist. She chose such an unusual profession for a reason: once a tornado killed her father. Together with her husband Bill Harding, she is developing new hurricane forecasting techniques. Despite the fact that their marriage is falling apart, the young people decide to bring the joint project to an end, especially since they have reached the final stage in their research. They need data from the heart of the tornado funnel. In order to get them, you need to make the tornado "swallow" the "Dorothy" device, whose sensors will transmit valuable information to the computer. After hearing a storm warning, Jo and Bill go to Oklahoma. They hunt for a tornado and, risking their own lives, try to "feed" the device to him. Unsuccessful attempts have already disabled several "Dorothy", the hurricane killed a team of fellow meteorologists. Will the heroes be able to cope with a dangerous task and how will an unequal battle with a tornado end for them?
