A song from the second album by the American rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd - Second Helping (1974). It was written by the band members Ed King, Gary Rossington and Ronnie Van Zant.
The song caused (and still causes) much controversy. An entire verse in it refers to the famous American singer Neil Young, who in his songs "Southern Man" and "Alabama" spoke out against the policies of racism and segregation in the Southern states. "Sweet Home Alabama" is used in the movie "Con Air (1997)". Steve Buscemi's character, Garland Greene, remarks: "Define irony. Bunch of idiots dancing on a plane to a song made famous by a band that died in a plane crash."
Also, this composition can be heard in the films "Forrest Gump", "Sahara", "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", "Crimson Tide", "Joe Dirt".
In the movie "8 Mile", the main character (Eminem) reads a freestyle to the tune of this song. In animated film "Despicable Me" and etc...
